Parkgate is a small village adjacent to the small town of Neston. It is situated on the banks of the River Dee which is the boundary between England and Wales. In the 1700's it became the main port for travel to Ireland when the river at Chester became silted up. At this time Liverpool was only a small village. The River Dee at Parkgate then silted up due to changes in the direction of the River to accommodate a steel works in Wales.
