The extinct core of an ancient volcano left an ideal place to put temples for spirit or nat worship which is an integral part of Theravada Buddhism. Myanmar houses many very important buddhist structures. The largest reclining Buddha, the largest bell still hanging and the largest Book in the world carved on stone slabs to contain the teachings of the buddha. Several Payas in Myanmar are said to hold hairs from the original Buddha. Mt Popa above has 777 steps to be climbed before one can rest and enjoy the encircling spirits that live around the Mountain.
