Innsbruck comment
My family and I were there in 2001. We had no ill feelings nor felt unconfortable. Maybe it was the aura you projected. Act like a typical American and you shall be treated as such. Being from Chicago I am well aware of the city mentality. I saw NONE of that from Munich to Innsbruck.

How can you say that Vienna is rude. It is the cleanest of european cities and just oozes with heritage. To say you ate in a McDonalds, you obviously haven't tasted Wiener Schnitzel or Frankfurters and roll with mustard on the streets and in the winter mulled wine, you should have gone into a beer house or wine garden then you see the best of the Viennese. If anyone was put off by the comments made by our friend, please ignore, Vienna should not be missed!!

Who's rude?
I am always shocked to see the rudeness of the Americans in Europe. Many make no effort whatsoever to learn a few key phrases of the country they are in. People have a lot of respect and time for those who at least try. The fact that you ate in a Mc Donalds, when you have such a wonderful choice of international cuisine says it all for me. Rude and arrogant are key words that spring to the minds of many Europeans when they consider Americans.

If you thought the people were rude in Vienna, then never plan to visit Germany---the same attitude and frowning faces!

Ich liebe Wien!
I did a study abroad program in Vienna and absolutely fell in love with the city and surrounding areas. It is beautiful, lively, clean, safe, welcoming, and has an abundance of art and culture. I'm moving back there this summer, and can not wait. I would highly recommend anyone to visit Vienna.

You didn't say why Vienna was unfriendly. I'm going in August and have heard nothing but wonderful things about it.

You ain't seen nothing yet!
I would recommend a good guide (like me, born in Vienna) for your next journey ;-). You didn't see the real beautiful places. BTW: Translation of the common billboard - it 'sells' immunizations against ticks (very common in Austria), headline: They cannot take a joke!
Bye!
