5. The harbour at Khasab
Sightseeing in Oman picture - No, do not look for huge ocean liners and containers. Khasab is totally rural. The harbour sees mostly fishing craft, hence traditional Arabic 'dhow's and speedboats. There is some traffic from Iran, about one hour away by speedboat. These speedboats, seen here, bring in livestock (mostly goats) for onward transit to the United Arab Emirates. On the return leg, they carry electronics, or, contraband American branded cigarettes, sourced from the UAE. Contraband cigarettes make up a significant volume of traffic. Our tour operator very diplomatically termed it as 'import export business'.
