Flinders Ranges - Hiking and Climbing

In July 2001, I undertook a five-day trip to the Flinders Ranges in South Australia, with long-time friend Mick Ogrizek. The journey was very comprehensive, including over 1000 km by rental car (a nearly-new Corolla Twin-Cam manual), and about 50 km walking - two hikes of 18 km, and one of 14 km. Our home location is Melbourne, Victoria, and we flew via QANTAS to Adelaide and back, some 1600 km return.

For those intending to emulate your travel - make sure you walk all the way through to EEDIOWIE GORGE. If you are fit enough it contains arguably the best view in the Flinders.

not the highest mountain in sa!
Just to point out an important fact. St Mary Peak is not the highest mountain in SA. The highest mountain is Mt Woodroffe in Northwest of SA (about 1400m I believe)

Wish I'd been there
You seem to have gained a little weight since I last met you. Must be some years ago now! Never mind, it happens to all of us. Just a pity I am no longer an employee but run a small business where -- unlike I do it myself -- it won't get done. Which is why I am unable to do thinks like this except during the annual Christmas break, when Adelaide becomes somewhat comatose.

Very nice Bob, brings back memories of my trip to the Flinders Ranges, When I got lost on one of the many roads without signs and with an almost empty tank of petrol. I remember driving on one road covered with stones all about 2 inches round, the rear number plate on my car hung down below the bumper bar and where all the stones had hit you could carry water in it because it was shapped like a bowl. Not to mention 6inch high heel shoes when it rained and the mud got stuck to them. Anyhow as usual I like to hear of your travels,as you can see this one brought back some fond memories for me, so good luck with the Radiomag story and keep on trecking.
