Island in the Sky is one of three major districts in Canyonlands National Park. It/s shaped like a triangle, with the Green River coming in from the northwest and the Colorado River coming in from the north east Side canyons feeding into these rivers have come within a few feet of each other near the Shafer canyon overlook, making Island in the Sky a large mesa, high above the surrounding canyon country.
