In short, Redang is FAR FAR away. It is truly off the beaten track. The island has no shopping mall (the one nearest is probably four, five hundred miles away in Penang or Kuala Lumpur), no gourmand restaurant (a handful of local eateries in villages nearby if you prefer), no disco. No nothing! Indeed, it is a no-frill island. All the happenings in big cities we are all so accustomed to are missing here.
One who comes is normally a dedicated and seasoned traveler, a supporter of eco-travel and an admirer of natural beauty. He or she is a lover of sunshine, white sandy beaches and who enjoy swimming, snorkeling or diving in a crystal clear marine environment side by side with all sort of coral fish and big sea turtles
One ordinary tourist, like me, however, should never be discouraged by the distance or by the lack of city life excitement. For, travelers from Italy, Germany, Switzerland, France, the UK, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and many others flock to this island paradise the year round just to unwind, relax and enjoy what the island has to offer. Trust not me but hundreds and thousands of travelers that have come or return here every year to prove that this little island tucked in the back of South China Sea is indeed a hideaway paradise. You will, like me, forgive and forget the hassle of changing flights, motor-coaches, ferry boats etc the moment you arrive at the island, the moment you come face to face with the beach. You will, just like me, yearn to come back before even departing after a dip in the water.
