There is no reason to hurry. The best thing is to walk casually, stopping in front of an old wall, a dome, a figured door. At least that's what one Ecuador guide book says to the visitor to Cuenca, one of the most colonial and photogenic cities in all Latin America.
We visited Cuenca in 1992. Our daughter and her young family were living there for a year, working with the indigenous people. (By the way, the family grew by one more when they adopted a little girl from Ecuador about a year later.)
