We left home June 16, 2004, and returned to Peoria, IL, July 4.

This is one of four articles from this adventure. There will be two more on Iceland and one on Greenland.

We also have other articles including one on Antarctica where we were between December, 2000, and January, 2001.

I know there will be some duplication of other articles I've seen on worldisround but hope I can add enough to make this one as interesting to you as it was to us.

Since Icelandic isn't easily translated with typewritten words, I leave it to you to pronounce them as you wish. I did take the liberty of phonetically spelling words which contain the symbol resembling the English letters D, P, and O with various additional markings but are pronounced like the "th" in "this" or "thing". Also, the letter J is always pronounced like the English letter Y. I hope it helps.

I welcome any additions, corrections, etc., since we were sometimes lax in keeping notes for every picture taken. Just drop me an e-mail at the address below.

I'll be making corrections, additions, etc., to the descriptions of pictures and other facets of the story as I do more research and get helpful information from others.

Note: For those of you who need to exchange American dollars for Icelandic Kroner, the major banks have the best exchange rates. Avoid currency exchanges, either as separate businesses or inside information centers or airports. Currency will always get you the best exchange rate but some banks pay the same for traveler's checks.
