Ceausescu chose a bit of a high point in the geography of Bucuresti on which to construct this monstrous edifice (the parliament building), and here's what you see looking out from the balcony atop one side. Dana explained that the plan was for Ceausescu to give speeches from this balcony to the adoring crowds in the square below. Apparently the revolutionaries had other ideas.
