Dana and I were planning on a subcompact, due to the rather striking cost of renting a car in Romania. I reserved what was listed on the EuropCar invoice as "Honda Civic or similar" (henceforth in this review, we'll call it "HCos") but was delighted to find, upon reaching the Bucuresti Airport, that this snazzy Ford Explorer was being held for us for no extra fee. Don't count on this kind of serendipity, but be advised that we found the 4-wheel drive and higher ground clearance, along with the cargo space and air conditioning ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL for a good deal of our adventure!
