I saw that Worldisround had all of the U.S. states covered except for Nebraska, so I figured I'd fill in that gap with my pictures of Carhenge.

Located along Old Highway US 385 (construction in the area suggested that 385 is being re-aligned, but my current maps don't reflect that) just north of Alliance, Nebraska, the second largest town in western Nebraska, Carhenge is a full-scale replica of the more famous Stonehenge.

Carhenge is also part of the Car Art Reserve. In addition to Carhenge, the grounds of the reserve are dotted with a number of metal sculptures built with car parts.

Carhenge was conceived by Jim Reinders, who once lived on the farm where the sculpture is located. It was constructed during a family reunion, and dedicated on the summer solstice of 1987. The site is preserved through voluntary local support and donations by visitors.

By the way, Alliance is a great west-end starting point for a drive east along Nebraska Highway 2 through the heart of Nebraska's famed sand hills region.
