Israel presents travellers with an amazing contrast of very, very old, and very, very new. Nightclubs and fashion boutiques sprout from neighborhoods which date from the Biblical period. It is a place where three religions collide, resulting in occasional seismic shifts of war and violence. In all of the Middle East, I would have to rate Jerusalem as my favorite city, and if it wasn't for all the Israeli troops and suicide bombers, it would make a great place to live for a while.
