01/07/93 -- The Turkish adventure had come to an end, and it was time to commence the next leg of this adventure -- the trip to Israel, the Occupied Territories and Egypt. We left Istanbul in very bleak weather on the short flight to Tel Aviv. On arrival in Tel Aviv I was very impressed by the surrounding landscape, the modernity and the people -- contrary to my earlier opinions, I began to think that Israel was the Promised Land after all! From the airport we went straight to Jerusalem, one of the most fascinating cities in the world -- and the most hotly contested and desired!
