Less is More
This is the most beautiful collection that I've ever seen. I only have one friendly comment: There are several photos of the same monument, square, scene, etc. For example there are too many pictures of Naqshe Jaha, or Damavand, some of which low quality and, in my opinion, being totally unnecessary. You can replace them with, say, the panoramic photo of Tabriz as shown in the Wikipedia. In closing thank you for your great educational and artistic service.

Iran can not be divided to before Islam and after Islam. Iran has been our land for many many centuries. This beautiful country has survived from all kind of invasions and will remain Iran for ever.

Iran...Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!
I went to visit Iran 1 year ago and visited Shiraz, Esfehan and other beauful and ancient cities. I couldnt believe how beautiful the buildings, paintings and other cultural aspects of these cities were. The people of Iran are so friendly and caring that you feel like you belong with them and that your part of one big family. I'm so happy that I visited this spectacular and historical country and hope to go there very very soon. My advice to you is that you should definetly consider a trip to this place!

Re: AZARBAIJAN
In response to Sepehr:

There are numerous pictures of Azarbaijan in this album. However, there might not be any from Tabriz, but that's because I haven't found any suitable pictures of Tabriz yet. When I do, I will certainly upload them. Thank you.

In school we studied Persian history, culture and civilization. But it seems history was as unfair on Iran as the media has been. All we know about Iran nowadays is women in black and harsh men. I never expected to see is such amazing landscapes and beauty and I strongly believe Allah would not give such beauty to someone if there was not a very positive thing in this person. I came to know some Iranians and they are as amazing as their country.
— Dalal, May 31, 2010

Unfortunately people around the world know almost nothing about Iran. What they know is just unreal and fakes things. It's every Iranian individuals and also Iran embassies responsibilities to make all efforts for show beauties nature of Iran and greatness of Persian Nation.

I'm doing some research on an antique Persian rug. I came across the site and have been mesmerized by the beauty of the country the diversity of the people, climate and architectures. It makes it a place I want to visit. I'm sad it is caught in a war of political strife brought on by inside and outside forces. I pray for change for such a beautiful place.

Iran, precioso .
Antonio

I've been in US many years age and anyone who knew I came from Iran have asking me "Do you ride CAMEL in your towns ?!!!!!!!!" To Dana Kapelian
Dear Dana, Thank you for your heart-warming comments. I pray that the day shall come soon when peace and harmony will prevail between all of Adam's children, and that you shall be able to experience first hand the great hospitality, kindness and generosity of the Iranian people in Iran.

P.S. I know of several cases where Israeli nationals have traveled to (and from) Iran without any problems, and with only good experiences. However, safest is the one who doesn't take the risk - One never knows.

Best wishes to you.
— Showcase IRAN (by various photographers), May 28, 2008

wow! what a beautiful, magical country Iran is, a monument for the grandor of human civilization. i wish i could go and visit one day. unfortunately, being Israeli, i doubt it'll be in the near future. your project is great & should continue! i will send it around, hoping we can find a solution through the web. thank you. dana kapelian

Having only just discovered this site, I am so disappointed to hear it will be shutting down. I'm an Iranian who has lived in London all my life and never been to Iran, and this is the first time I am seeing how beautiful the country really is. Good luck with seeting up a website, I'm sure many people will be interested, in the meantime there is a site called www.flickr.com where you can upload your photos for free, please upload them so we can continue to spread the word about beautiful Iran! Thank you for your wonderful photos

Iran Beautiful
As we look into our Harritage from your briliant pictures, then we discover the essence of Iranian people mind the way treat each others.HOW SAD THE MISTAKES OF PAST LEADES WERE DEALT BY BLOOD RATHER THAN REASONING.How sad to prove a point we had to join the fools.Iranian people are still getting punished by thier spritueal leaders.Thier spritueal leader still do not trust thier own peopl.Fear of making mistake is slaving young minds. Thank you by showing your selection, you are telling powerful story. Ferdousi once said: What ever we done, we did it ourself

Please add
The pictures from Iran are really amazing. There is always one problem and that is when we show those to American people they always think that we are all living in small villages and the type of the Architecture is the Rural type. I wish there were more pictures about the Modern Arshitecture, The exisitn larger cities like Isfahan with the historical monuments show whithin the city, not separately so they can see how the Urbanism is done in Historical cities. Thanks, safi
— Safi, April 17, 2008
To Niloufar
Thank you for your kind comments. As for the Kings and Queens and other rulers such as Ayatollah Khomeini, I have added them here because they are a vital part of Iranian history, whether one agrees with what they have done and stand for or not. While you think that they do not deserve to be admired, there are those who would disagree with you. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
— Shahram Razavi, April 12, 2008
Thank you very much for all these beautiful pictures. The country is beautiful, no doubt about it. Also thank you for the faces. I'm very proud of my country and its people. I just wished you wouldn't add any of those Kings, Queen or Ruler, since they didn't do anything to deserve admiration.
— Niloufar, April 11, 2008
fantastic job
It,s about time someone put all these beautiful pictures from iran together in one place, this way perhaps some american now will know that Iran is a great and beautiful country ,not a desert like the arab countries,no mater how many times you explain to these uneducated people that we are not arabs ,they do not understand, thanks for the great job keep up the wonderful job.
— mo youssoffi(BMWof Riverside), April 9, 2008
Very nice pictures
I am truly amazed when I found these pictures all together here.
— Shervin, April 5, 2008
BTW, don't mix the Iranian government up with the Iranian people.

"I just want you to know that those of us individuals who don't conform to your standards, rather don't even want to hear anything you say. Cut the rhetoric, and the size of Iran on the map will increase. You can't isolate yourselves from the world, and then demand attention".

What type of stupid and ignorant comment is this? Shahram Razavi (the person who posted these picures) is not part of the Iranian government. He's an ordinary Iranian person. Stop being racist you fool. These are all non-political photos, so why do you feel the need to come here to talk about politics? And not even the Iranian government cares about people outside of Iran not conforming to their standards. Do you think they care if people in the USA are gay? The answer is NO. They do not care at all.

Go look for attention somewhere else. Ignorant prick.
— Cyrus, March 30, 2008

Kevin, what was the point in posting a comment? You come here to post a comment so people can feel sorry for you? LOL. Get over yourself. Oh and BTW, there are plenty of homosexuals in Iran. They'll only get problems from the government if they go around flaunting their homosexuality trying to get everyone to feel sorry for them like you do. Not everyone in this world is an attention whore like you are. And if you have no respect for our culture (where homosexuality is still taboo), then just leave and don't come for attention from us. Homosexuality is still taboo in most societies, and it will take time before it will become perfectly normal and acceptable. Don't try and change the times that we live in, just be patient. Even people like the Dalai Llama find homosexuality to be sinful. And even in the USA, plenty of people still look down on homosexuality.
— Cyrus, March 30, 2008
Thank you for showing me the beauty of Iran. It is however, a sad fact that I will probably never be able to see Iran in person. As a homosexual male, I am delighted to enjoy the beauty of the United States without the fear of being imprisoned or killed. Please don't misunderstand me, I'm not claiming one country is superior to the other; I just want you to know that those of us individuals who don't conform to your standards, rather don't even want to hear anything you say. Cut the rhetoric, and the size of Iran on the map will increase. You can't isolate yourselves from the world, and then demand attention.
— Kevin, March 24, 2008

some missing topics
Dear Mr. Razavi, Great collection. I am a postgraduate Iranian student in US. After browsing internet several times to show my colleagues and professor some of the pictures of Iran and hardly found any good quality of what I wanted, finally I bumped into your website which was pleasing and encouraging. However I felt some topics have been missed, including material objects, rituals, ceremonies, life style, clothing and whatever that can present the culture. Also I found nothing contemporary in the pictures. As we admire and value only old and historical heritage, we often forget to acknowledge the beauty of new and modern.

I enjoyed the pictures so much and I wish you the opportunity to continue ....
— Maryam Afshar, February 10, 2008

Dearest Sylvia
Dear Sylvia I'm so glad that these pictures brought you pleasure! And God willing, may you live for many more years, and remain healthy and content with your life. I can assure you that you would enjoy Iran and its very hospitable people! To avoid the summer heat, you should try to go in the Spring or fall. I would recommend the spring, so that you can enjoy the beauty of the legendary Persian gardens! (Since you are British, I assume you value beautiful gardens)

My best wishes to you!

Mrs.
I am an old lady, now living in Oregon, born in England. Two years ago I made trip to Turkey especially to admire the Muslim architecture and was not disappointed. Having spent the past two hours looking at your pictures, I was enchanted with the Iranian countryside. How beautiful. Maybe I will live long enough to be allowed to make a journey to Iran. Thank you for the pleasure you have brought to me.

Looks a very beautiful country but at the same time a disgrace.... I'm a travel lover but won't visit this country not before women get the rights that are rightfully theirs.... How can my spirit be at rest and travel there knowing all the stuff that takes place against women. WOMEN AND MEN ARE BORN EQUAL AND SHOULD HAVE THE SAME RIGHTS.... MOST MEN IN IRAN HAVEN'T YET UNDERSTOOD THIS... OR IS IT JUST MORE COMFY THIS WAY FOR THEM?!!!

Just wanted to thank you for showing our natural graces. Whenever I feel down with my nostalgic feelings, I surf for pictures of Iran. I try to fantasize being there behind the very same camera who shot those photos. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It would have also been nice to see more photos of masses: old and the young, hospitals, schools, families, universities, coffee shops, libraries, kitchens, stores, etc... as I see occasionally elsewhere. Good luck and hope your photos will bring more peace and tolerance around the world.

That's so beautiful pictures, This is the thing that we(Iranian) should have come up with that a long time sooner. That is the way to attract tourists around the world and show the people who we are.I can see the consistency and harmony in all pictures you posted here.I know that Americans are thirsty to explore the great Iran and the lovely people. This is the only place having more than 6000 years civilization.I will refer my friends to this site.I know that they can not wait to see that.Great job !

Amazing Shahram indeed!
Compatriot Shahram! Your works are truly amazing. To those who fully comprehend this rich labor of Shahram, words are far too less to measure the degree of thanks we owe to this selfless person who has brought our beloved Aryan Fatherland right to us inspite of the distance. Simple words just appear insufficient to "sing a praise of this site." I urge my fellow compatriots to take a cue from Shahram and enlighten each other by observing the simple correctitudes whereby we render unto each other that homely and fraternal feelings. Shahram, I once again on my modest part reflect my sincere thanks. With utmost emotional feelings I salute all those who have seen this site of Shahram (too) and admire and appreciate his contributions to us whether abroad or in the land of Zoroaster, Cyrus, Darius, Xerxes, Cambysses and Artha-Xerxes.

— Mina Giay, April 11, 2007
I am not an Iranian, but my love for Iran is simply more than one can imagine.Yes, basically it is because of the revolution and the glory restored to all the Islamic world by the Iranians. But now watching these wonderful pictures I could see that your country is so beautiful and was the cradle of a great civilization. If I was to be reborn again and was given the choice to select where I wish to live I will certainly chose Iran. Please why did you omit the picture of the 7 star hotel of Kish Island in TEHERAN THE MEGA CAPITAL OF IRAN?

You are lucky to have such a beautiful country. I was curious about the "King of the Lamp" shrine, but all of your pictures are wonderful. I think more Americans (like me) should know about your country. I am a student of Business, considering a minor in Sociology. Brilliant work, thanks.

TRULY AMAZING!
This is the most beautiful collection I've seen! I've always been open to traveling anywhere in this world, but now Iran has made it to the top of my list! I "stumbled" across your images while doing a search for my job as a photo researcher. I am working on finding images for a small World History textbook and would like some captivating, out-of-the-ordinary photos. Could you PLEASE contact me? I would be thrilled if a few of your photos could appear in our book and show another side of Iran to students and instructors out there. Absolutely gorgeous! Linda, lindad@harlandavidson.com
— Linda Gaio, May 18, 2006
A land of Treasure
How many of these are UNESCO sites? The treasures of Iran MUST be protected. The wealth of architecture and rich tapestry of culture and history needs to be preserved for future generations. If only our governments weren't such stupid little boys....

My hat's off to you for putting together this large collection of pictures. Also, thanks for finding and using some of mine. Here's more, action and activities around Iran: http://community.webshots.com/user/cambysem
— Cambyse, March 12, 2006
These photographers have done more good for our culture, our nation, and Iran, than anyone I know. These pictures have no less artistic value than the works of other contemporary or ancient Iranian poets and artists have created. Their work will last for eternity.

Since you are already involved in this, I would like to see a collection of Iranian people, and seeing this work with bricks, I know you will do a marvelous production with them as well.

Much luck to you,

Rubik from Texas.

Great job, Thanks. I live in Canada and when I miss Iran I visit your site and I feel as if I am there.
— Azadeh Hadizadeh, February 16, 2006
I am sorry but you said that blue or green eyes in Iranians is not the norm but not rare. I would like to point out that hazel mixtures between green and brown is the most common eye colour in Iran and that brown and blackish hair are the most common hair colour for 70% of Iranians while the rest are yellow or red or mixtures. I have dark hair myslef but when ever I am with family members or visiting my area in Iran I stand out cause black hair is rare and blond is the norm.
— M D Nazemroaya, February 13, 2006
Thank you for these amazing pictures! You have captured the soul and the spirit of Iran, a land that cannot be reduced to its recent geo-polotical situation, and which cannot be forgotten, once it has touched one's soul.

Thank you for the work you did. Can't wait to see this in a book. I hope that it will be easy to get clearance from all the artists. Thank you for getting me back in touch with the gorgeous land we have. Pics of Guilan and Shemshak & Dizin made me cry. I spent so much of my childhood there. Great work Mr. Razavi! Very impressive indeed. Just one minor correction: The Qajar royalty picture you identified as "I think this is Abbas Mirza..." is actually Mohammad Shah Qajar, the 3rd Qajar King, son of Abbas Mirza, grandson of Fathali Shah and father of Nassereddin Shah. Respectfully, Pars Irandoost

— Shahla Sameie, November 23, 2005
I got the change to go to Iran last summer, and I am really quite ashamed to say that I was expecting it to be a very oppressive country where everyone was hostile towards Americans (which is, sadly, how the American media portrays it), so imagine my surprise! As your photos have shown, Iran is not the wasteland it is often perceived to be, but one of the most incredible countries I've visited, and everyone was so friendly towards me, even though I'm an American. I hope I have the chance to visit again. It's unfortunate that the poor relationship between the US and Iran will prevent Americans from actually seeing your beautiful country. If only Americans could get a look at the REAL Iran, there might not be so much hostility! Thank you for sharing.
— Mandy, November 20, 2005

Safeguard Iran!
Is this what USA and allies want to destroy next? (After Afghanistan & Iraq) All of us should safeguard this heaven!

Kheyli Khasheng!!
This is a marvelous undertaking. I thank you and worldisround for offering a window on such wonders! I hope that you will continue to add commentary and more specifics to all these pictures - I know you have already put in hours and hours! The Baha'is of the world are Iran's cheer leaders. May the land of rose gardens and prophets and poets join the whole world in gentle freedom! A Baha'i from Wisconsin

— Shirin, May 28, 2005
Thank you
As long as I remember I always wanted a photo collection of beautiful things and places of Iran somewhere handy.I can cross this one out from my wish list now.
— Soheila (Toronto,Canada), May 24, 2005
Merci!
Having had the priviledge of living in Iran from 1974 - 1978, and the opportunity to travel extensively within Iran and neighboring countries, your photographs reminded me of the warmth and beauty of a people and country I so love. Timeless grace.
— Susan Haberland, May 23, 2005
Stunning; absolutely beautiful. Sir, you have done a great job and we can proudly introduce the real image of our country to those who don't know it. Thanks again
— Mehdi Hassanzadeh, May 20, 2005
Your photo collection is fabulous, I never knew Iran was so fascinating a place, but I hope you will do photos of all Iranian cities as you did in your Tehran -Mega Capital of Iran site, it would be great to see what the other cities are like as well without the cosmopolitan out look that Tehran has.
— Agha, May 20, 2005
Pure Love!
Obviously you have spent a great deal of time in presenting what we see here. Only pure love of our beloved homeland whould do this. As an audience, and as an Iranian patriot, I extend my tokens of gratitude and appreciation to you. A small friendly observation: It may be a good idea to include the names of some of the artists whose works are showcased here--such as the creator of the wonderful modern version of the Lion-and-Sun emblem. Maybe I am biased, because I myself am an artist! Good luck with the great job you are doing.
— Koorosh Angali, May 18, 2005
Hi Shahram: Cogratulations on this great collection! I really enjoyed it.
— Nazila, May 18, 2005

— Alvaro Calasans, May 4, 2005
Wow!
Your photos showed me that Iran is a beautiful and varied country. I never knew about wild tulips. What a lovely photo! Did Iran have a wet winter in 2003-2004? Here in California we had a wet winter in 2004-2005 and the deserts came alive with flowers. If you search for my name (above) you can see some pictures of the desert flowers. Thanks again for the photo tour of beautiful Iran! I hope I can visit Iran someday.
— Alison Ruth Defrese, April 30, 2005

Amazing photographs. What a beautiful country. I hope some day to have the opportunity to travel to such a beautiful country. Thank you, for sharing.
— Jill, April 29, 2005
What a Pro!
Those shots are awesome. They really show how diverse Iran is. A hell of lot different from the stereo typical shots we get on American TV of a big desert. Hard to believe such a beautiful country is part of the "Axis of Evil."

Congratulations for this wonderful job. You seem to be a great artist. Your collection is indeed amazing. Thank you for sharing it with us. Your collection shows another side of Iran to the world.

ATTENTION PLEASE:
Some people have reported that they as of recently are unable to access my Tehran photo gallery page from the U.S.A. ("Teheran - Mega Capital of Iran") - I would appreciate if those of you who reside in the U.S. and post comments here would include in your comments your country of residence so that I can assess the situation regarding access from the U.S.A. Thank you. (The Tehran photo gallery contains approximately 1000 pictures of today's modern and progressive Tehran, featuring the dramatic progress and development which has occurred in recent years, and shows another side of Iran, very different than the prevalent image of the country reflected in much of the Western media.)

Excellent shots of breathtaking craftsmanship and skills. You have a truly amazing country and heritage. I drove through from Turkey to Bandar Abbas some years ago on a tight schedule but got to stop in Isfahan to see the Masjed-i-Shah: deeply impressive. Much food for thought.

Hi,

You have a great collection of beautiful pictures. Congratulations! very nice job. I noticed a couple of things in the explanations of pictures that need more of your attention: 1-Fin garden in Kashan not Mahan. 2- The Bam Earthquake happened in Dec. 26 2003, and you have written April 2004.
— Mehdi, February 2, 2005

Thank you very much.Fabulous.As an Iranian living in west, i can tell ,sadly, most of western people associate Iran with Iraq and Afghanistan and think we are Arabs, nomades and backwards.I ve explained them several times that we are Persian with 4000 years of civilisation. With all the pictures of those beautiful mosques they would probebly even believe more in, that we are Arab. That woulb be a good idea if you put more pictures of our modern Iran, Industrial areas, medical centers, roads,Universities, buildings, airports, hotels from above to show its magnificences and developments.I ve missed home a lot.

— Goli, January 16, 2005
-Iran, noting but Iran
Splendid, wonderful, fantastic, .... But do everyone in our strugle think of all these as you and I do... we lost 26 years in the battle with tyrany, by those who we thaught they are trusted...
— No name until Iran is FREE, January 15, 2005
I wish you would add some explanation to pictures, such as Rayen Caslte, which I do not know where it is and how old it is.There are some historical mistakes too.For example Parthians ruled way before Sassanian, therfore they could not have ruled 274 years bc.Must be way before that date.
— moini, January 14, 2005

Magnificent Persia
My tourist of the last 2004 October tour, Jane Lattes , folk art museum of New York , I quote as saying ( at Persepolis ): "I CAN'T understand why any one , any writer couldn't like all this". Irandokht , I just can't afford to thank you enough for upgrading this wealth of pictorial material regarding fabulous Persia.
— Mohammad, October 20, 2004
I just can't thank you enough, for posting all those terrific photos!! Having been to Iran twice (1970 and 1976) I especially appreciate seeing all the places I've been, and many more!! The Persian people I met were very friendly. I'm sorry they now have all those problems. Would love to return, if I didn't have to wear a head scarf the whole time! Do you think I'd have to, on that Kish island? The Crown Jewels are unbelievable, have seen them twice!! Thanks again!!!!!
— ellie robb, September 15, 2004
