Trans-Iranian Railway
North Africa/Middle East picture - Iran's Trans-Iranian Railway was built during the reign of Reza Shah Pahlavi in the with the help of the Germans. It was completed in 1939 and is 1,394 Km long, connecting the Persian Gulf to the South of Iran and the Caspian Sea in the North of Iran with the Capital Tehran. Much of the route passes through rough terrain and through long tunnels very high up in the mountains. Thus, it was quite a challenge to build, with many obstacles to overcome.
