Iran<br> North Africa/Middle East picture - Babak Khorramdin (800 AD) born in a village near Ardebil in N.W. Iran, is considered one of Iran&#39;s greatest national heroes. He and his followers, the red-dressed &#34;Sorkh-Jaamegan&#34; promoted a purely Persian religion - Mazdakism. During a rebellion (816-837 AD) against the Arab rulers of the Caliphate of Baghdad they killed many of the troops and commanders of the Arab armies before Babak was betrayed by one of his own and was murdered. Tens of thousands of Iranian nationalists gather in early July every year at the Babak Castle in the town of Kelidar, in East Azarbaijan Province of Iran to commemorate their national hero. </div></nolayer></noembed>
