Persian Miniature by Bagher Aghamiri
North Africa/Middle East picture - There is a prevalent misconception in the world, and particularly in the West, that Islam forbids the portrayal of human beings in the form of paintings and images of various kinds. Although there have been cases of some Islamic societies forbidding the portrayal of humans in the arts, this is an issue which depends very much on the culture and religious interpretations of the society in question. Iran is an Islamic society where there has never been any such restrictions. Even the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (PbuH) is portrayed in Iranian art, although His face is either left blank or covered by a piece of white cloth.
