This spectacular Persian rug tapestry shows one of Iran's Shah's sitting on his throne surrounded by his devoted courtiers. Note the flag on the right hand side with Iran's national symbol, the "Lion & Sun" emblem. The original tricolor flag of Iran was of a rectangular shape with green at the top, white in the middle, and red at the bottom, and with the lion and Sun emblem situated in the middle on the white background. Today's Iranian flag has features the same colors, but the ancient Lion and Sun emblem has been replaced with "Allah" (God) written. The old flag is today widely used by the 4-5 million strong Iranian diaspora around the world.
