Though it is just about as large as all of Western Europe, never in its history has Iran been smaller than it is now. Most of its former territories of Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan Republic, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, were all lost to the Russians, while Afghanistan was lost to the British. Much of the country is mountainous. In the middle there is the Dasht-e Kavir Desert, while in the north there are large lush woods and green meadows. Southern parts of Iran, by the Persian Gulf offer more tropic climate and landscapes dotted with palm trees. Western Iran is mountainous and partly covered with woods. Large parts of Iran are covered in snow winter time and offer some of the world&#39;s best ski slopes. [RP-AI0001] </div></nolayer></noembed>
