Zorastrian temples, synagogues, churches and mosques have always stood side by side in Iranian society. The religious minorities are also represented in Iran's parliament. Although Islam preaches tolerance towards other religions and most Islamic societies throughout history has practiced it, religious freedom and tolerance in Iran existed even in pre-Islamic times.
