The ancient fortress of Bam
North Africa/Middle East picture - Photo: Arsia Soroushfar --- This was the world's largest mud-brick construction until it was tragically ruined by the devastating Earthquake of April, 2004. The "Arg-e Bam" fortress dates back to Sassanian times and has been used as baracks for soldiers of Iranian armies in old times. The fortress is currently in the process of being reconstructed with the help of an Iranian-Italian team of experts.
