Merida, Colonial City, Yucatan

Merida in the state of Yucatan, located in the NW corner of the Yucatan Peninsula, was founded by the Spaniard, Francisco de Montejo on January 6, 1542. Montejo was the conqueror of Yucatan.

At the time the Spaniards arrived, Merida was a large Mayan city called T'ho.

The Spaniards dismantled all the pyramids and used the huge stones as the foundation for the "Catedral de San Idelfonso". ... (more)

Hi, nice pics about Merida, i live there.. but i think u must to add another pics cuz those pics just are from Merida downtown and what about "Paseo Montejo" and the other buildings? .. anyway congrats for this seccion..

That is calle dthe Hotel Merida. It used to be a Mission Hotel but no more, although it's been 4 years since I stayed there, it is still my fav place to stay in Merida. Honeymooned there 15 years ago too.

Thank you for exposing Merida. A lot of tourist [myself included] simply pass-by this town en- route to Uxmal, Chichen Itza, Cancun, & etc. yet this town apparently has plenty to offer as evidenced by your pics. Once again, THANKS!
