Shattered German Bunker, Pointe du Hoc Brittany picture - Point du Hoc was hit with ten kilotons of bombs and naval shells prior to the invasion -- the equivalent of the explosive power of the atomic bomb used at Hiroshima. Sixty years later, the craters are still visible and huge bunkers such as this one have been chopped to pieces. Yet it still took an extraordinary act of personal courage to neutralize the German garrison.
