Federal Conference Centre
Government Buildings in Ottawa picture - The site of numerous federal/provincial and other high-level conferences, it was originally a very luxurious rail terminus, built beside the Rideau Canal for the Grand Trunk Railway in 1912. A tunnel gave direct access to the Chateau Laurier across the street, so that wealthy travellers wouldn't have to brave the elements. It was replaced by a new station about three miles (5 km) away in 1966, and the government eventually turned it into a conference centre. Since then there have been attempts to find other uses for it, such as a Sports Hall of Fame, but no firm plans have yet materialized.
