Government Buildings in Ottawa picture - This stone mansion on a densely treed lot, overlooking the Ottawa River and across Sussex Street from Rideau Hall, is where the Prime Minister hangs his hat. It was built in 1866 by mill owner and MP Joseph M Currier, as a wedding gift to his bride. The home was bought by the government in 1943 and became the official residence for the PM in 1951, its first official occupant being Louis St Laurent. It is not open to the publicl.
