entrance National Research Council palace
Government Buildings in Ottawa picture - The NRC was established in 1916, and this palatial-looking building, now known as the Sussex Drive Laboratories, became its headquarters in 1931. Probably the most famous scientist to walk through this entrance for decades was the late Dr Gerhard Herzberg, "the father of modern molecular spectroscopy", who won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1971. One of the laboratories is named in his honour.
