Myself and John flew to Geneva from London in September 2004 for a long weekend holiday of 4 days.

The weather was a little overcast, but the whole holiday was a great pleasure. For a start, flights from the UK are cheap & very quick (only 1.5 hours in the air), hence comfortable.

The airport at Geneva is close to the main town, no more than 15 minutes in a cab.

I had no idea Geneva is such a beautiful City. It straddles the River Rhone as it opens out into Lake Geneva (also known as Lac Leman).

The people speak French in Geneva, but practically everyone also speaks good English, so I tended to start off talking in hesitant French, only for them to reply in English, which is rather nice as at least I tried. It's a bit rude to assume they speak English I think, even though they all do !!!

Geneva is clearly a very wealthy City, everyone seemed rich. It's full of fancy cars & restaurants, bars, etc. Prices were about the same as you would expect in say the best parts of London or Paris, so not outrageously expensive, although obviously far from cheap !

Traffic drives very fast, cyclists prefer to use the pavements rather than the roads, and trams move quickly but silently down the shopping streets. So altogether it's actually quite dangerous I found ! You certainly need to keep your wits about you when on foot.

Overall though, I found Geneva a simply stunning City, and would definitely visit again. The people were extremely friendly, and welcoming, and the scenery (principally the Lake, and the Old Town) were breath-taking.
