About 20 minutes before the scheduled arrival time in Honolulu the captain of the United Airlines plane announced with regret that he had received instructions from the tower that he had to follow a different approach route to Honolulu airport and as such we would miss the spectacular view of the Diamond Head and Waikiki Beach.
