I mean, I'm a brown person (a fellow Malay race) & so, I was like a local here which then enabled me to travel freely anywhere & thus, really got to observe the country which is peaceful in general since only a few, remote places in Indonesia are volatile.

However, we have to remember that even if Indonesia's relatively peaceful, there still exists Islamic militants here even if they're just really small by the numbers.

Unfortunately (i.e. if you're white!), there's no telling where the militants are & so, your safety cannot be guaranteed especially in the aftermath of Sept. 11.
