If we compare Malaysia & Indonesia (the main Islamic countries of South-East Asia), we can conclude that Islam in Malaysia is stricter & more traditional yet they don't have the militancy that Indonesia alarmingly has given it's relative lax-ness. Now why such a phenomenon you may ask? The answer lies not in religion itself as to how a lot of people percieves it to be. Rather, the answer lies in economics whereby no matter how strict & fundamental a religion is in a country, it still won't have any alarming militancy as long as poverty's low & such is Malaysia.
