But why such a phenomenon you may ask? Why does the Pacific has all the mountain ranges & volcanoes while the Atlantic coasts almost none? Well, let me throw-in one more "works of nature" in terms of plate shifting & that is earthquakes! As we all know, most devastating earthquakes also occurs in the Pacific side of the earth. Areas such as: Central Am., Peru, California, Japan , INDONESIA, & etc. Well, that's because mountain forming, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis [a.k.a. "tidal waves"], & etc. are all caused by one thing -"plate tectonics" which is such a cool word that we often hear about it since it's one major scientific word in the ranks of "Evolution," "the Big Bang," Newtons 3 Laws, & etc.
