El Puerto de la Cruz is the main tourist resort in the North of the island. It was a tourist pioneer resort in Canary Islands. One thing that characterizes this resort is the weather. It is quite estable and mild during the whole year-round. It has a big artificial lake called Martianez Lake.

In El Puerto de La Cruz you can find The Botanic Garden, which dates from 1788. It gathers fauna from the five continents. This Botanic Garden was used by the Spanish Kingdom as a previous step for the acclimatization of the tropic plants that were afterwards introduced in the main land.
