The Wasatch Mountains are probably the best-known mountains in Utah (although not the highest). The range extends from near the Idaho border, south to Mt. Nebo near Nephi, Utah. The major cities of Ogden, Provo and Salt Lake City are located in the valleys at the base of these mountains.

Mountain ranges with higher peaks include the Uinta Mountains (in north-eastern Utah, near the Wyoming border), the Deep Creek Mountains (in Western Utah, near the Nevada border), the LaSal Mountains (in south-eastern Utah, near the Colorado border), and the Tushar Mountains (in south-central Utah, near the town of Beaver). All of these ranges have peaks over 12,000 ft. high. The highest in the Wasatch range is Nebo North Peak, at 11,928 ft.
