The day started off gloomy and soon turned to steady rain at the Banana Bungalow in Wailuku, Maui. Thoughts of cancelling my trip were in the back of my mind, but a new hostel friend (with a car!) offered to take me the 28 miles to the summit of Haleakala where the Sliding Sands trail head is, and promised to bring me back if I decided not to go. ...
