LAKE TOBA

Lake Toba or commonly referred to as Danau Toba by the locals is one of the largest crater lakes in the world. Measuring some 100km long and 30 km wide, it is located in the northern part of Sumatra. According to the scientists, the lake was created from a gigantic volcanic eruption 75,000 years ago. The collapse of the volcano formed a caldera, which then filled with water and thus creating Lake Toba. Later, the floor of the caldera was uplifted to form Samosir, bigger than the island of Singapore in the middle of the lake.

Lake Toba is scenic and cooling all year round and it offers a good respite from the hustle and bustle of Medan city.

The lasting impression I have on this trip is the famous Batak folk song called "Sing Sing So" which our multi-talented tourguide Mr. Hamid taught the whole tour group to sing. It sounded beautiful when all of us sang and hummed in harmony on a boat in Lake Toba.

Sing Sing So Ueeeeeeelugahon au da parauuuu (oh boat please take me go) Ullusson au da alogooooo (oh wind please blows my boat) Tu huta ni da tulangiiiiiiiii (to the village of my uncle=the father of his girlfriend)

Refrain: Sotung manimbil roham da hasian ( My sweetheart please dont cheat=please keep your heart for me only) Paima so ro si rongkap ni tondim (Until I come to you) Tiur do tong-tong langka ni baoadi (I will come to you safely=to ensure that they will meet) Tarsongon parbinsar ni mataniari da ueeeeeee (As rising of the sun)

Ueeeeeeelugahon au da parauuuu Ullusson au da alogooooo Tu huta ni da tulangiiiiiiiii
