She could not return to the sea and did not belong on land; she gave up everything for love. Not visible in the shadow of her neck is the "scar" where her head was re-welded to her body after vandals cut it off and carried it away. Copenhagen, vaunted as the most cosmopolitan of the Baltic cities, was also the most western in that we saw vandalism, grafitti, pollution and litter, disenfranchised youth, homelessness, bums and beggars and McDonalds there and nowhere else.
