Helmsley is a picturesque market town on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, surrounded by the beauty of the park itself and other attractions such as Byland and Rievaulx Abbeys and many attractive stately homes and castles. Dominating the town is its majestic castle and the Elizabethan buildings that surround it. Helmsley holds its market every Friday attracting millions of visitors a year. The town is famed for its varied shopping, top art galleries, clothes shops and the once voted top toy shop in Britain! The Town Hall which holds many events in Helmsley was opened by the Duke of York in 1900 and this was remembered in the year 2000 by the opening of the newly restored hall by the present Duke of York.
