The Festival of the Nine Emperor Gods (九王爷）falls on the ninth day of the ninth moon in the Chinese lunar calendar. Devotees flock to the Nine Emperor temples throughout the country for this religious festival. Today, the festival is mostly celebrated by followers of the Taoist.

It is to be believed the nine emperors were the nine heroic generals in ancient China who sacrificed their lives for their country and were subsequently worshipped as deities.
