Copenhagen picture - The busiest street in all Copenhagen. The place for shopping. From the City Hall Square to Kongens Nytorv - the oldest pedestrian street in Europe was closed for ordinary traffic in 1962. Before 11 o'clock am lorries and other vehicles bringing goods to the various shops are allowed, after that only pedestrians.Originally the street consisted of 5 streets: Frederiksberggade, Nygade, Vimmelskaftet, Amager Torv, og Oestergade. In general you can say, that the closer you get to Kongens Nytorv the more exclusive the shops. To-day the inner city consists of a network of pedestrian streets making it possible to stroll through the old town at leasure without the noise and fumes of modern day traffic.
