The big cities of Java such as Yogyakarta & etc. all have ancient water palaces that are so elegant since these cities goes way back to the times of the sultans. (But the Dutch put an end to the sultanates starting the mid-15th.) Nowadays, most of these ancient water-palaces are simply a hang-out place of kids & other commoners as seen in this pic. *Some of the other water palaces (in other ancient cities) are kept by the descendants of the sultan of that respective city whereas some of the royal families built new palaces that are off-limits, or partially open, to the public.
