India, January 2002
My husband and I, and another couple, spent two weeks traveling around the Northwest area of India this past January. It was a fantastic journey for all of us! We were initially concerned about traveling in that part of the world given the Anti-American sentiment among some Muslim groups abroad following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the US and the subsequent war in Afghanistan. Plus tensions had been increasing between India and Pakistan resulting from a terrorist attack on the Delhi Parliament that had been linked to the long-time dispute over control of the Kashmir territory. Fortunately, we didn't experience any problems. In fact, because there were so few Western tourists, we were lucky to have many of the monuments, parks, temples and mosques all to ourselves. India is a beautiful and fascinating country, rich in history and traditions, and the people are warm and welcoming. We recommend that everyone make the trip for a wonderful experience!
