Grand Canyon National Park The Grand Canyon became a National Park in 1919. Sixty years later it was declared a World Heritage Site to be protected and preserved with support of the entire community of nations.
The brochure says: "Grand Canyon is a geologic museum of epic proportions, where nearly half of the earth's 4.6-billion-year history is displayed."
