My daughter had been a volunteer at an orphanage in Kathmandu, Nepal. AFter her term of service was over, she invited me to join her for the Everest Base Camp trek. We took a bus from Kathmandu to Jiri (which is a 10 hour trip), and from there the trek began. This is the "old route", which many now by-pass in favour of flying into Lukla (at 9,000 feet).
