The front of St. Peters Basilica measures 350 ft. long. The original St. Peters was begun in 324AD. The current St. Peters was designed in 1450. Michelangelo took over the work in 1546. Finally in 1626, the new St. Peters was consecrated after 200 years of construction. Immediately on the right upon entering the Basilica one can find Michelangelos famous sculpture, Pieta, depicting the Virgin Mary holding the body of Jesus.
