SAN GIMIGNANO The hill town of San Gimignano was founded around the eighth century. It maintains its medieval appearance and still has 14 of its original fortress-like towers within its walls. The countryside is some of the loveliest in Tuscany.

When you visit Italy's towns, you always walk through because buses are not allowed to drive in most nor park in others except in designated places.

Upon leaving town, we were surprised to a luncheon stop at the winery Fattoria Poggio Alloro where we were treated to various luncheon meats and cheeses along with Bruschetta, a delightful Roman garlic bread, and were able to taste their various wines which are made on the property. This is a lovely setting with a view of San Gimignano on a distant hill. The property also serves as a quaint bed and breakfast.
