A Buddhist monk that I met at the local Buddhist orphanage in Kandy, Sri Lanka. He was explaining that the various colour robes - orange, red, pink, and burgundy are to indicate from what chapter or branch the monk or nun derives from. The lighter orange cloth around his right shoulder is actually a cloth bag which most of the monks I saw carried around.
