this is the courtyard of the nunnery. we had rooms on the other side of these walls. we were the only people staying here, and it was very peaceful. i awoke at 5:30 in the morning to the sounds of the nuns doing their morning chants. and then ate breakfast with them. it was really a unique experience sleeping and eating in the nunnery. the nuns were wonderful hosts, and i was amazed at how quiet meals were. of course, they all broke out into hysterical laughter when i accidentally bumped my head on the doorframe, but otherwise it was almost an otherworldy experience.
