Here are the photos from our recent trip to Emei Shan (pronounced 'uh-may') in Sichuan Province. This mountain is one of the four major sacred Buddhist mountains in China. the original temples on the mountain were built as early as the time that Buddhism made it's way from India to China. Emei Shan was added to the UNESCO World Heritage site list in 1996.

This place definitely seems like a land that time (or china's rapid push for modernization) forgot. The trails are serene, the views spectacular, and the temples and monasteries almost like time warps.

The main trails are constructed of slate slabs, and stone stairs but still make for some pretty tough hiking as the staircases go more or less directly up and down the steep faces of the mountains. There are also countless ancient paths and tracks through the forests and mountains that lead to small villages, dwellings, and the mountain gardens and tea bushes of the locals.

once again, there are a lot of photos here. feel free to take a look at whatever catches your interest.

hope you enjoy!
