Island Vis covers 96 square kilometres and has around 5000 inhabitants.This ecological oasis has thirty beautiful coves and little islands which will turn your holiday into an ecstatic pleasure in untouched nature.Mellow climate with more than 210 sunny days in a year,beautiful springs and autumns make the island Vis attractive during the whole year,especially for those who engage in creative work and look for inspiration. Strategically the most important island in Adriatic Sea,Vis was inhabited centuries ago as antic Issa,founded by Greek colonists far back in 4th century BC. Vis has quite a history behind it.It was a commercial center,pirates center,place where the famous battles of 19th century were fought. The center of allies operations in Second World War was on the island. It can be easily accessed daily by ferry from Split,where you can board with your car.But I suggest you to leave the car.You do not need it on this beautiful island.If you are the sailor you can come with your boat.There are many small family ventures on the island.One of them is Hotel-Restaurant "Paula" located in the old part of the city of Vis,in "culinary" part called Kut.You can find there and in many other reasaurants, European specialties and local fish delicacies. Vis is also famous for its wine.There are "Vugava"-the white wine only grown there,and "Plavac"-red wine which is well known also in other parts of Dalmatia.If you come to this island once,you will be back again.
